This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Rice rava upama with onion and coconut chutney

Upama is a simple snack usually served as breakfast. Rice rava upama is very simple, mildly sweet and very easy on stomach. It tastes great with any chutney.

Ingredients:
2 cups rice rawa upama
1 big onion
4-5 green chilies
1 cup grated fresh coconut
2 table spoon oil
1 strand curry leaves
1 spoom mustard seeds
1 spoon urad dal
1 spoon sugar
1/4 cup freshly chopped coriander leaves
pinch of hing
salt to taste
For chutney:
1 cup fresh grated coconut
1 small onion
1/4 cup roasted dalia
2-3 green chilies
1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
salt to taste
For tadaka:
1 spoon oil
1 spoon mustard seeds
1 strand curry leaves

Preparation:
1.Finely chop onion
2. cut green chilies
3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard, urad dal, curry leaves, hing and green chilies and saute till mustard splits
4. Add the chopped onions and saute till transparent.
5. Add the rice rawa and saute for three minutes
6. Add 5 cups of water, salt , sugar and mix well, cover and cook on low flame till the rice rawa gets cooked.
7. Add the fresh coconut and mix well
8. Garnish with coriander leaves
Chutney:
1.Grind all the ingredients for chutney in a mixer to a fine paste adding required amount of water
2. Put tadaka with oil, mustard and curry leaves
Serve rice upama with onion &coconut chutney
