This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Gongura Rice


Gongura Rice
                                                                     
Gongura (sorrel leaves) leaves rice is an interesting way  to have this greens rich in iron. . It is a delicacy of Andhra. It is a nice dish to have especially on a rainy day.


Ingredients:
3 cups packed chopped gongura leaves
5-6 green chilies
1 inch ginger
10 garlic pods
3 table spoon oil
1 big chopped onion
1 strand curry leaves
1 table spoon chana dal
1 tea spoon mustard
1 dry red chili
1 tea spoon garam masala powder
1/2 tea spoon haldi
2 cups cooked rice
Salt to taste

Preparation:
1. Cook rice and set aside
2. Grind green chili, garlic pod and ginger to a fine paste
3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard, chana dal, broken red chili, curry leaves and haldi and saute till mustard splits
4. Add the chopped onion and saute till transparent
5. Add the gongura leaves and saute till the leaves wilt
6. Add the ground masala, salt, garam masala
7. Add the cooked rice and mix well and take off the flame
8. Serve hot with any raita.
