This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Varalakshmi Vratam



                                                                               

Invoking the blessings of goddess Lakshmi


Vara.mahalakshmi Vratam is a festival to propitiate Goddess Lakshmi.  It is believed that Varalakshmi is one who grants boons. It is an important pooja performed by many women in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Maharashtra. Varamahalakshmi pooja is performed on the second Friday of Shravana month. Vratam is performed by married woman for the well being of all the family members. ,especially husband to get progency etc. It is believed that worshipping Goddess Varalakshmi on this day is equivalent to worshipping Ashtalakshmi - the eight goddesses of Wealth, Earth, Learning, Love, Fame, Peace, Pleasure, and Strength.
