This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Tamarillos Salsa

Tamarillos (Tree Tomatoes) are egg-shaped, tangy, mildly sweet fruits. They have a flavour of their own. It is said to be rich in potassium. Salsa made of tamarillos tastes great.

                                                              

Ingredients:( serves three)

6 tamarillos
1 small capsicum
3 ripe red tomatoes
2 green chilli
1 medium size finely chopped onion
1 big pod of garlic, grated
1 tea spoon red chilli powder
1 tea spoon sugar
1 table spoon white vinegar
1/2 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
1 tea spoon Italian seasoning
Salt to taste

Preparation:
  1. Roast the capsicum on an open flame till it develops black spot and becomes soft
  2. Chop finely the roasted capsicum
  3. Heat 4 cups water in a pan and put the washed tamarillos and tomatoes. Cover and cook well
  4. Discard the water and peel the tamarillos and tomatoes
  5. Mash the peeled tamarillos and tomatoes well with the back side of a spoon
  6. Add the chopped green chilies, grated garlic, chopped capsicum, vinegar, sugar, salt, red chilli powder, Italian seasoning, coriander leaves, chopped onion and mix well
  7. Serve with any corn chips
