This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Aloo Methi

The combination of potatoes and fresh tender home grown aromatic  methi leaves is a winning combination. Serve this with hot pulka and observe your family members licking their fingers!!

Ingredients: (serves four)

Aloo 500 gm
Methi leaves 250 gm
1 tea spoon coriander powder
1 tea spoon jeera powder
1 tea spoon gram masala powder
1 tea spoon red chilli powder
1 tea spoon jeera
1/4 tea spoon hing
1 strand curry leaves
1/2 tea spoon haldi
1 tea spoon amchur powder
Salt to taste
3 table spoon oil

Preparation:
  1. Boil aloo , peel and cut into big pieces
  2. Wash and chop methi leaves finely
  3. In a bowl mix all the masala ingredients listed above  including salt with 1 table spoon of oil
  4. Mix the  aloo pieces with the masala well and rest for ten minutes
  5. Meanwhile heat the remaining oil in a pan and add jeera
  6. When jeera splits add hing, haldi and curry leaves
  7. Add the chopped methi leaves and cook on a low flame till methi leaves slightly changes its colour
  8. Add the aloo  masala mixture and mix well
  9. Cover and cook for ten minutes on low flame
  10. Serve with hot roti
