This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Hesarubele chakkuli (Moong Dal Muruku)

Moongdal muruku is a crispy crunchy snack made with moong dal and coconut milk. It is a yummy tea time snack . The coconut milk adds a mild sweetness to the muruku.

Ingredients:

2 cups rice flour
1/2 cup moong dal
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 table spoon ghee
1 table spoon jeers
1 table  spoon til
Pinch of hing
Salt to taste
Oil for frying muruku

Preparation:
  1. Dry roast moong dal till light brown
  2. Powder the roasted moong dal in a mixer
  3. Mix together rice flour, moong dal powder, hing, jeera, til, ghee and salt
  4. Add the coconut milk (I used the store bought coconut milk) and mix well.
  5. Add required amount of water and knead a smooth ,soft dough
  6. Rest the dough for 15 minutes
  7. Heat oil for frying muruku
  8. Fill the dough into the muruku press and press directly into the oil
  9. Fry till golden brown and remove on an absorbent paper
  10. Store in air tight container
