This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Green Chili Chutney

                
Green Chilli Chutney

This delicious, really hot, green chilli chutney, is for all those who love spicy food.This sizzling chutney activates the taste buds in no time. Enjoy this chutney with hot rice or spread on bread .   

Ingredients: (serves 4 people)
20 green hot chilies
1big lemon size tamarind
8 garlic pods
1 spoon jeera
1/4 cup fresh coconut
1/2 cup packed fresh coriander leaves
1 table spoon oil
1 tea spoon jaggery
Salt to taste
For Tadaka:
1 table spoon oil
1 tea spoon urad dal
1 tea spoon channa dal
1 tea spoon mustard seeds
1 strand curry leaves

Preparation:
  1. Wash and slit the green chilies
  2. Heat one table spoon oil, add jeera
  3. When jeera splits add the tamarind, green chilli and sauté on low flame till green chilli changes colour lightly
  4. Add garlic and sauté for a minute
  5. Add the coconut and the coriander leaves and sauté for one more minute.
  6. Add salt and jaggery and put off the flame
  7. Cool and grind in a mixer coarsely without adding water
  8. Heat oil for tadaka  and put mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, and curry leaves. 
  9. When mustard splits put off the flame and add the tadaka to the ground chutney
  10. Serve green chilli chutney with hot rice and ghee
