Ammana adige mane in Kannada means mother's kitchen. This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Badam Halwa (Almond Halwa)


Badam Halwa

Badam Halwa is a rich, tasty Indian dessert. It is prepared with almonds. This halwa has a predominant taste of almonds.

Ingredients:
2 cups Almonds
11/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup ghee
Saffron, a pinch soaked in a table spoon of warm milk
5 cardamom powdered
1/2 cup of sliced almonds

Preparation:
  • Soak the almonds in warm water for 4-5 hours
  • Peel the skin and grind the almonds to a smooth paste adding milk
  • Heat 2 table spoon of ghee
  • Add the ground paste, sugar, saffron soaked in milk and stir the mixture on low flame
  • Once the mixture starts thickening and the sides starts getting a little dry add the rest of the ghee and cook till ghee leaves the sides of the pan
  • Switch off the flame and add the cardamom powder and garnish with sliced almonds
  • Serve warm
  • Almond halwa stays fresh in  the refrigerator for a week
