This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Steamed Wheat Balls

                                                                   
Steamed Wheat Ball
 Steamed wheat balls is a very simple and healthy breakfast. Serve it hot with coconut chutney.

Ingredients: (makes 12 balls)
2 cups  wheat rava (Broken Wheat)
1/4 cup Chana dal
1/4 cup Moong dal
4 dry  red chilies
1/4 cup fresh grated coconut
1 table spoon oil 1 tea spoon mustard
1 tea spoon channa dal
1 tea spoon urad dal
1/4 tea spoon hing
1 /4 tea spoon haldi
2 strands curry leaves
1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
4 cups water
Salt to taste
Preparation:
1. Soak  in water chana dal, moong dal  and red chilies for an hour
2. Grind to a fine paste the soaked chana dal, moong dal and red chilies adding required amount of water
3. Dry roast wheat rava on a low flame till a nice aroma arises. Set aside
4. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard, chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, hing and haldi
5. When mustard splits add the ground paste, salt, water and bring to a boil
6. Add the roasted wheat rava and mix well taking care no lumps are formed
7.Cook the mixture till wheat rava gets cooked and all the water is drained
8. Cool the mixture and make elongated balls and steam in idli steamer for 7-8 minutes
9. Serve hot with coconut chutney
