Ammana adige mane in Kannada means mother's kitchen. This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Puffed Rice Upama


Puffed Rice Upama
Puffed Rice upama is a simple, easy, quick, low calorie dish that can be had as breakfast or evening snack.This taste similar to regular poha upama.

Ingredients:
500 gm Puffed rice
2 medium size onions
3-4  green chilies
2 strands curry leaves
1/4 tea spoon haldi
1 spoon jeera
1/4 tea spoon hing
2 table spoon roasted pea nuts
salt to taste
2 table spoon oil
1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
Preparation:
1. Soak puffed rice in water for 15 minutes. Squeeze water from the soaked puffed rice well and set aside
2. Coarsely powder roasted peanuts and set aside
3. Finely chop onion and green chilies
4. Heat oil in a pan and add jeera, curry leaves, haldi, hing and saute till jeera splits
5. Add the chopped onions and saute till transparent
6. Add the soaked puffed rice, salt and mix well
7. Cover and cook for two minutes
8.Put off flame and add the coarsely ground peanuts and mix lightly
9. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
