This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Basale Soppina Vade
Here is a delicious recipe made with basale soppu (Malabar Spinach). This vade is authentic to Udipi. It is a great combination with tomato saaru. It tastes great with Tea/Coffee too.

Ingredients:
2 cups finely chopped basale soppu
11/2 cup rice
8 red chilies
1 tea spoon methi seeds
1 table spoon jaggery
1 table spoon tamarind extract
1 tea spoon coriander seeds
1 cup fresh coconut
2 finely chopped onion
1 tea spoon haldi
Salt to taste
1 strand curry leaves
Oil for frying
Preparation:
1. Soak rice and methi seeds  together for 2 hours.
2. Drain the water from rice and grind it along with coconut, red chilies, haldi, tamarind, jaggery, coriander seeds and salt to a fine paste adding water. The final consistency of the ground paste should be of dosa dough.
3. To this dough, add finely chopped basale soppu, curry leaves,onion and mix well.
4. Heat oil in a  frying pan
5. When oil is hot ,take little dough of  small lemon size and lightly flatten it and slowly slide it into the oil
6. Fry till golden brown
7. Tastes great with rasam rice or Tea /coffee
