This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Garlic Chitranna


Garlic Chitranna                                                               
Chitranna is a rice -based flavourful dish mostly prepared in homes in southern part of India. There are various kinds of chitranna. It usually involves mixing cooked rice with gojju or podi

Ingredients:
2 cups rice
1 tbsp chana gram
1 tbsp urad dal
1 tsp coriander seeds
6 red chilies
10 flakes of garlic
1 strand curry leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 table spoon peanuts
1tsp oil for roasting the dals
1 table spoon oil for chitranna

Preparation:
1. Cook rice and set aside
2. In a pan heat 1/2 tsp oil and add 5 flakes of garlic and saute till garlic turns brown. Set aside
3.Heat remaining 1/2 tsp oil and roast urad dal, chana dal, red chilies 5 flakes of garlic, till dal turns light brown
4. Powder finely the above roasted masala
5. Heat 1 table spoon oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, curry leaves and peanut and saute till peanuts change colour.
6. Lower the flame and add the cooked rice, powdered masala, salt and mix well.
7. Add the sauteed garlic flakes and mix well
8. Serve with cucumber raita
