This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Fruit Balls


                                                                        
Fruit Balls

Fruit balls is an excellent , healthy dessert loaded with fruits. Fruits balls are sumptuous festive treat. Serve this chilled on a hot summer day and enjoy.

Ingredients: (Serves 4)
For custard
400 ml milk
2 table spoon vanilla custard powder
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tea spoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup pomegranate
1/4 cup chopped and  roasted assorted dry fruits

For fruit balls
4 bread slice (preferably white bread)
Half apple finely chopped
1 kiwi peeled and finely chopped
 1 banana peeled and  finely chopped
1 orange peeled and deseeded
1/2 cup pomegranate
1/2 pear finely chopped
1 table spoon honey
Half cup warm milk
4 tea spoon strawberry jam

Preparation:
Custard:
  1. Boil 300 ml milk
  2. Mix the custard  powder in 100 ml milk without lumps
  3. When milk starts boiling add the sugar and mix well
  4. Add the milk and custard powder mixture to the boiling milk and keep stirring on a low flame till a light thick custard is formed
  5. Add the vanilla essence and put off the flame
  6. Allow the custard to cool to the room temperature
Fruit balls:
  1. In a bowl  put all the chopped fruits, add the honey and mix gently
  2. Dip a bread slice in the warm milk and gently squeeze in between  both your palms 
  3. Keep the milk soaked bread on your left palm
  4. Apply half spoon of straw berry jam on the milk soaked bread
  5.  Put two table spoon of fruit and honey mixture on the bread
  6. Carefully bring the edges of the bread together using both your hands to form a tight ball
  7. Repeat this with the other three bread slices
  8. Now dip these balls in the custard
  9. Spread half spoon of straw berry jam on top of each of the fruit balls
  10. Garnish with roasted dry fruits and pomegranate
  11. Refrigerate it for an hour and serve chilled
