Ammana adige mane in Kannada means mother's kitchen. This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Ubbu Rotti

Ubbu rotti is made of rice flour. This  rotit is a staple breakfast item in Malnad areas. Hot soft ubbu rotti served with ennegai tastes awesome. However in Malnad it is normally served with banana and Jaggery mixture.

Ingredients: m(akes 6 rotti)
1 cup rice flour
2 cups water
Salt to taste

Preparation:
  1. In a wok boil water and salt to taste
  2. When water starts boiling keep the flame on sim mode and add the rice flour. Do not stir the rice flour for 15 seconds
  3. After 15 seconds stir the rice flour well with a spatula  and bring the flour together to form a mass
  4. Put off the flame and keep the mixture covered for 15 minutes
  5. After 15 minutes wet your palm and knead the mixture well till a smooth dough is formed
  6. Now make balls that of a size of medium orange
  7. Roll the balls with a rolling pin adding generous amount of rice flour to roll
  8. Heat a tava and put the rotti on the tava and cook on medium flame on both the side.
  9. Press the edges of the rotti gently with a clean cloth. This will facilitate even cooking
  10. When the roti develops brown spots take the rotit from the tava and directly put on the flame
  11. this will help the rotti to puff up
  12. Remove from the flame and serve ubbu rotti with any side dish of your choice
