Ammana adige mane in Kannada means mother's kitchen. This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Banasi Rave Idli

                                                                
Banasi Rave Idli

Banasi rave is the rave made out of wheat. Idli made with banasi rave are much healthier than idli made with normal rice. These idli's are quiet filling too.

Ingredients: Serves 4
1 cup urad dal
2 cups banasi rave (wheat rave)
Salt to taste

Preparation:
Soak urad dal for 3 hours and grind to a smooth silky batter adding enough water.
Mean while take a clean cloth and put the banasi rave and tie the ends. Put this in a cooker separater pan


 
Add enough water in the bottom of the cooker and steam the banasi rave for 8 minutes (without the weight)
 
 
After the cooker is cool remove the bansi rava from the cooker
Add this steamed  banasi rave to the ground urad dal batter , add salt and mix well
Ferment  the batter for 8-9 hours
Grease the idli mould and put the fermented  batter into the idli mould and steam the idli's for 7-8 minutes
Serve hot with coconut chutney or tomato chutney
