However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Yellow Dal with Tava Fried Brinjal           
Dal is a healthy  recipe that every Indian would love to have in their meals. It is a simple and comfort food. Dal with any simple accompaniment like papad, fryums makes a very satisfying meal. Tava fried brinjal is one such accompaniment that tastes yummy with this simple yellow  dal.

Ingredients:
For  Yellow Dal:
2 cups tuvar dal
3-4 slit green chilies
12 inch grated ginger
2 strands curry leaves
1/2 tea spoon haldi
1 table spoon ghee
1 tea spoon jeera
1/4 tea spoon hing
1/2 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste

For tava fried brinjal:
1 big fresh brinjal
4 table spoon o rice flour
1 tea spoon red chili powder
1/4 tea spoon hing
Oil for frying brinjal

Preparation of  yellow dal:
1. Cook tuvar dal with haldi powder in a pressure cooker adding 5 cups of water
2. Mash lightly the cooked dal
3. In a pan heat ghee and add jeera, when jeera splits add hing, curry leaves, green chilies and ginger.saute well.for a minute
4. Add the cooked dal and required amount of water, salt.
5. Allow it to boil, add coriander leaves and put off the flame

Preparation of tava fried brinjal:
1. Wash the brinjal and dice into thin circles and soak in water to avoid the brinjals turning black
2. Mix rice flour, salt, hing and red chili powder
3. Heat a tava.
4. Smear the rice flour mixture on both  sides of the brinjal pieces and line on the hot tava
5. Drizzle oil on the brinjal , cover and cook on both the sides till brinjal becomes soft and crisp.
6. Serve with hot rice and yellow dal
