Majjige Saaru

                             Majjige Saaru
This saaru (rasam) is a very good appetizer. This saaru can be either consumed as an accompaniment with rice or just as a soup. I have used the juice of lemon in this recipe, instead 1/2 cup of raw ,sour juice of mango can also be used.

Ingredients:
5 cups water
1/2 cup sour butter milk
Juice of 1 lemon
3 green chilies
11/2 tea spoon mustard seeds
1/4 cup fresh coconut
1 table spoon ghee
1/2 tea spoon haldi
1 table spoon chopped coriander leaves
1 strand curry leaves
2 dry red chilies
1/4 tea spoon hing
Salt to taste

Preparation:
1. Boil  five cups of water and cool
2. Grind together coconut, green chilies and 1/2 tea spoon mustard seeds to a fine paste adding water
3. Add this ground masala to the boiled and cooled water and mix well (Saaru)
4. Beat well the butter milk and add to the above saaru
5. Add salt
6. Heat ghee in a pan, add the remaining mustard seeds, hing, haldi, curry leaves and dry red chili . When mustard splits add this tadaka to the prepared saaru
7. Mix the juice of 1 lemon into the saaru.
8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
9. Serve the saaru with hor rice or as soup.
