Ganesha Chathurthi

Authentic spread in Karnataka on Ganesha Chathurthi
Ganesha Chathurthi, also known as Vinayaka Chathurthi ,is celebrated  in the Hindu calendar month of Bhaadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi. which usually falls in the month of August/September.
According to Hindu Mythology, Lord Ganesha, the elephant- headed God, is the remover of all obstacles. He is worshipped first in any prayers.
The main sweet-dish during the festival is modakam which is believed to be Ganesha's favourite dish. Modakam are prepared in many different ways. Normally it is made from rice flour stuffed with coconut and jaggery ,in the form of dumplings, steam cooked or deep fried.
The above piucture dipicts a normal spread in any Karnataka house hold . In the clockwise direction- Chandra modaka (modak in the shape of moon,),Chitranna (flavoured rice), Mosaru vade (dahi vada), Gasgase payasa (pudding made of khus khus), Modaka, and in the center is Kosumbari (salad made of soaked raw moongdal, carrot and cucumber).
On this auspicious day of Ganesha Chaturthi, may Lord Ganesha bring happiness and prosperity to all .
