Ammana adige mane in Kannada means mother's kitchen. This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Hasi Saaru
Hasi saaru is made using all raw, simple ingredients. It can be made in no time. It tastes great with hot steamed rice.

Ingredients:
1 big lemon sized tamarind
1 medium sized onion finely chopped
1 tea spoon jaggery /sugar
1 tea spoon til
1 tea spoon pea nuts
2 slit green chili
1 table spoon fresh coconut
1 tea spoon mustard seeds
1 tea spoon jeera
1 strand curry leaves
 1 red chili
1 tea spoon oil
Salt to taste
Preparation:
1. Soak tamrind in 1 cup water for ten minutes and squeeze out the pulp
2. Grind to a paste peanuts, til and coconut adding water
3.In a vessel put the chopped onion and  using hand slightly mash the chopped onion
4. Mix onion, ground masala, tamarind juice, jaggery,salt and green chilies and mix well,
5. Add 3 cups water and mix well
6. Heat oil in a pan and add jeera, mustard seeds, red chili, curry leaves and when jeera splutters add this to the above mixture.
7. Mix well and serve Hasi Saaru with hot rice.
