Jolada (Jowar) Vattu Shavige |
Vattu Shavige(Iddiyapam) is normally made of rice. Here I have made a healthy version of vatu shavige using jowar flour. It is an excellent breakfast item and helps keep the sugar level under control.
Ingredients: Serves two
1 cup jowar flour
1 cup water
Salt to taste
1 tea spoon oil to grease the idle plate
Preparation:
- Take the jowar flour in a mixing bowl and add salt
- Boil the water
- Slowly add the boiling water to the flour and mix using a wooden ladle
- Knead well for five minutes
- Grease a chakuli (muruku) press with thin holes
- Put the kneaded jowar dough into the chakuli press and press the shavige (iddiyapam) on to a greased idle plate (It is advisable to press the shavige while the dough is still hot for easy pressing)
- Steam the shavige for 8-10 minutes
- Serve with coconut chutney
