Ammana adige mane in Kannada means mother's kitchen. This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Baklava Rolls



Baklava Rolls

Baklava Rolls is a middle Eastern dessert. Crunchy from outside and nutty from inside, with a mild sweet taste makes it very hard to resist.

Ingredients:
1 pack, Pillsbury puff pastry sheet (makes 12 rolls)
1 cup assorted coarsely ground dry fruits
2 table spoon butter
1 tea spoon rose water/essence
1 tea spoon cardamom powder
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup finely chopped almonds

Preparation:
  1. Pre heat oven to 180 degree centigrade
  2. In a thick pan add sugar and half cup water and boil till you get a sugar syrup of one string consistency
  3. To this sugar syrup add rose water and cardamom powder and mix well
  4. Thaw the puff pastry sheet and spread on the kitchen counter
  5. Brush the sheet with butter
  6. Vertically cut the sheet into 6 strips
  7. On this strips generously spread the dry fruit mixture and roll each strip tightly
  8. Brush each roll with butter
  9. Cut each roll into two and place on a greased baking sheet.
  10. Generously drizzle  the sugar syrup over the rolls
  11. Sprinkle finely chopped almonds on each roll and lightly press so that the almonds get stuck to the rolls
  12. Bake the rolls in preheated oven for 30 minutes or till  the rolls turn crisp and golden brown
  13. Remove from the oven and drizzle some sugar syrup over the baked rolls
  14. Cool and store in airtight container
