This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Bhindi Masala


Bhindi Masala


Bhindi Masala is a very healthy and tasty vegetarian dish, a perfect treat for lunch or dinner served with hot rice or roti

Ingredients:
500 gms bindi (okra)
2 small onions
4 garlic pods
2 tomatoes
1 inch ginger
1 tea spoon lemon juice
1 tea spoon coriander powder
1 tea spoon red chili powder
1/2 tea spoon cumin powder
1 tea spoon garam masala
1 table spoon kasuri methi
1/2 tea spoon haldi
Salt to taste 2 table spoon oil.
1 spoon whole jeera.

Preparation:
1. Wash and  pat dry bindi
2. Slit the bindi length wise into four pieces
3. mix lemon juice with the cut bindi and cook in the microwave for 10 minutes or till done .
3.Chop onion and tomatoes finely
4. Grind together onion, tomatoes, ginger and garlic to a fine paste
5. In a pan heat the oil and jeera
6. When jeera splits add the ground masala and haldi and saute on low flame till oil leaves the side of the pan
7. Add salt, coriander powder, chili powder, jeera powder, and garam masala powder and mix well.
8. Add the cooked bindi ,mix well cover and cook for five minutes
9. Now add the kasuri methi and mix lightly.
10. Put off the heat and serve with hot roti.
