Ammana adige mane in Kannada means mother's kitchen. This blog is aimed at those who love to cook simple home made food with minimum available ingredients.The style of recipes in this blog will be mostly Dakshina Kannada (Vegetarian) home made food. However I intend to share recipes other than authentic Dakshina Kannada cooking which include cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab...There is also something for those who like cuisine from across the sea.

Cabbage vada


Cabbage vada is an authentic Dakshina Kannada dish. It can be served as a snack or a side dish with lunch/dinner.

Ingredients:
2 cups rice
1 cup coconut
1 tea spoon methi seeds
1 table spoon jaggery
7-8 Red chillies
1 table spoon coriander seeds
2 cups packed shredded cabbage
1 cup finely chopped onion
1 table spoon tamarind extract
1/2 spoon haldi
Salt to taste 
1 strand curry leaves
Oil for frying

Preparation:
Soak rice and methi in water for three hours.
Grind the soaked rice and methi seeds, jaggery, red chillies,coriander seeds, haldi, tamarind extract, coconut and salt to a fine paste adding 1 cup water.
To this paste add the cabbage and onion , mix well.
Drop small balls of the mixture into hot oil and fry till they turn golden brown.
